Bringing people together. All shapes and sizes, creeds and colors. Unified under one purpose, to worship a living Lord. This is the vision and passion of Travis Cottrell. Known as a bridge that can overcome the issues that separates the Body of Christ, his love for bringing Christians together quickly caught the eye and ear of Beth Moore, who has, for the past 10 years, enlisted Cottrell as the worship leader for her world-wide events. And now, Cottrell has taken this love for unity a step further. In conjunction with his upcoming Christmas project “Ring the Bells” which releases October 7, 2008 on the Indelible Creative Group, this young worship leader has stepped out with Operation Freedom Bell, encouraging believers to make a change in their world by touching the lives of American soldiers serving overseas.
“Of course, we all have been touched personally in some way by people we love serving in the military, whether it's spouses or parents or children or brothers and sisters or friends, and even many of you yourselves have served,” explains Cottrell. “My life is far removed from any kind of first hand experience with serving our country through the armed forces myself. And my prayers, thoughts and thanks go out to all of the BRAVE people who serve in this selfless and heroic way. I have asked myself, ‘What can I do as a service to these men and women? What can I do that will not only encourage them, but will also give them something that will change them forever?’ And giving them the very Word of God seemed to be the most fitting thing.” The Operation Freedom Bell program centers around a brass bell that simply says the word “Pray”. The purchase of each solid-brass Freedom Bell provides an American solider with a “Thank You To Our American Heroes” New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs. Both the consumer and the solider will also receive video downloads from Lt. Col. Oliver North and Beth Moore, along with a MP3 single from Cottrell.
Cottrell continues, “My father was a prisoner in WWII. He spent many months in a concentration camp in Germany. Because of his testimony and his legacy, I have learned the importance of praying daily for those who are serving in such grave circumstances…for the sake of our freedom.”This path is far from the plans Travis would have made for himself. He came to Nashville from his hometown of Boone, NC to attend the acclaimed Belmont University to become a music star. This changed during college, when God softened Travis’ heart and set him on a different path that would turn his focus away from himself, and change it to a passion to become a sincere worshipper of the most high and holy God. After graduating from Belmont with a degree in church music, Cottrell began writing music and landed his first song “It’s Only Thunder” on Larnelle Harris’ I Choose Joy CD. His next published work “Waiters: A Youth Musical about Waiting on the Lord,” became a best-selling youth musical. He continued to be diligent in his writing while working at a music publishing company when unexpectedly, a minister of music position opened at his church. The church requested Cottrell fill the position, and the next season of Cottrell’s life was spent leading worship at the 6,000 plus member Two Rivers Baptist Church in Nashville. This job opened his eyes to being sensitive to the diversity in each setting. This on-the-job-training at Two Rivers Baptist opened the doors for this young artist to become a part of Beth Moore’s ministry. His passion for the church, and bringing together the hearts of believers in true worship has been the hallmark of his ministry. “God has given Travis what I believe is a gift of favor with audiences and congregations,” says author and speaker Beth Moore. “His approach permeates every denominational wall. His warm, yet powerful style engages even the most resistant group into irresistible worship.”“There is something about true worship from the heart, it magnifies the Lord, not that God gets bigger but that He increases in the earth,” explains Chris Thomason, President and CEO of Indelible Creative Group. “So when the heaven and earth proclaimed praise to Jesus in a manger, the celebration reverberated through the earth and the ages and is magnified today. Ring the Bells from Travis Cottrell continues the celebration and gives us the ability in song to celebrate God’s greatest gift to us. Travis’ ability to communicate all that Christmas encompasses is amazing and we are very excited to share this landmark recording with the world.”
